4th Annual Hot Times Kate Schulte Tribute

The 4th annual Hot Times Kate Schulte Tribute honored the Tribute’s Artist-in-Residence Emeritus: renowned jazz educator and international performing artist Edward “Kidd” Jordan. The 2015 Artist-in-Residence, legendary baritone saxophonist Hamiet Bluiett joined Kidd and the Jazz Poetry Ensemble for what has grown into a festival within and around a festival. This year, the Kate Schulte Foundation presented a 5-day series including club performances and workshops that culminated in a free performance at the Hot Times Festival on Sunday, September 13. The previous Wednesday featured a energetic and inspired spontaneously improvised performance at Natalie’s Coal Fired Pizza and Live Music. This was followed the next evening by a well-received casual performance at the iconic Dick’s Den. The next day featured a workshop at Capital University.

On Sunday, the week climaxed with the Hot Times performance. A highlight was Bluiett’s performance of Blues for Kent State, which featured an amazing display of circular breathing that evoked cheers.
